Impetigo

Impetigo is a bacterial skin infection that's highly contagious. It appears as a rash on the face, arms or legs, but can also appear in the armpit or groin areas. It's more common among young children but adults can get it too.

With treatment, Impetigo usually gets better in 7 to 10 days. Our pharmacists can diagnose and prescribe medication for impetigo, and answer any questions you may have.

Typical symptoms of Impetigo

Impetigo starts with red sores or blisters on the skin's surface that will burst and leave crusty, golden-brown patches.

The patches can:

  • Look a bit like corn flakes stuck to your skin
  • Grow and get bigger
  • Spread to other parts of your body
  • Itching
  • Can sometimes be painful

Follow these simple steps to get your medication quickly and easily

  1. Review the symptoms
  2. Complete the form
  3. Choose a time for our pharmacists to call; where they will determine the best treatment for you
  4. Review your medication in your basket and order for prompt delivery

How will the pharmacist help with Impetigo

During your consultation the pharmacist will examine your rash to assess if you have impetigo. If necessary they will prescribe medication, such as antibiotic creams or tablets for treating the bacterial infection, but may also recommend that you see your GP.

Your pharmacist will also be able to answer any questions you have, and give you advice about preventing the spread of the infection.
