What is Proctosedyl Suppositories

Proctosedyl is a widely used medication for the treatment of Haemorrhoids (piles) and other related anal conditions. Available in both cream and suppository forms, Proctosedyl helps to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and soothe itching associated with haemorrhoids, whether internal or external.

Proctosedyl contains a mild anaesthetic called cinchocaine and a corticosteroid known as hydrocortisone. Cinchocaine provides rapid pain relief by numbing the affected area, while hydrocortisone reduces inflammation and itching.

How to use Proctosedyl Suppositories

  • Usage: Insert one suppository into the rectum, typically once or twice a day for up to 7 days. Suppositories are especially useful for internal haemorrhoids

  • Instructions: For easier insertion, moisten the suppository with water before use. Ensure that you remain lying down for a few minutes after insertion to allow the suppository to dissolve and take effect

Before starting, please read the manufacturer's leaflet supplied with your Proctosedyl medication to ensure correct use.

Who can use Proctosedyl Suppositories

Proctosedyl is suitable for adults (aged 16 or over) who are experiencing symptoms of Haemorrhoids or other anal conditions. However, it is not recommended for individuals with certain health conditions, such as infections in the affected area, viral skin infections, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding without medical advice.
